High school volunteer opportunity in Fairfax County

  • September 5, 2022September 5, 2022

Vecinos Unidos (VU) offers a recurring volunteer opportunity for high schoolers and adults in Herndon, VA. This is a fantastic volunteer opportunity for high schoolers who are interested in earning service hours towards the Fairfax County (FCPS) curriculum.

High school volunteers make a difference

As a volunteer, students are paired one-on-one with a child in grades 1-6 and provide help with reading, writing, and math. Our mission is to help children improve their literacy and math skills so they can become successful in school and beyond.

Many of our volunteers at VU have been students at local high schools in Fairfax County, and they have found our volunteer program is a great way to earn consistent service hours while doing something they enjoy. High schoolers can build skills while making a positive impact for our children.

VU is different from other volunteer programs, because you’ll get to see the same faces every day. You’ll watch our kids grow and improve, and they will build long-lasting relationships with you. Our high school volunteers always bring much needed energy and enthusiasm to VU, and often become role models that our children look up to.

About the program

This volunteer opportunity is open to anyone ages 16+. We operate in-person, one evening a week (Mon – Wed) from 4:30-6:00 pm at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center.
