Help create new impact opportunities for our community

Organizations can support Vecinos Unidos through a variety of different ways. On a typical day at VU, about 15 children in grades 1-6 receive help in reading, writing, and math. We have an awesome group of volunteers who come in one day every week to work one-on-one with the students. We love mixing things up, and welcome other organizations and businesses to lead activities, sponsor small events, or fundraise for our students and their families.

Lead an Activity

Volunteer groups are welcome to plan and lead a hands-on classroom activity. The children love learning about science, technology, art, history, and more. We love seeing them get excited about learning!

If this is of interest, we can coordinate a day that works best with your schedule. Activities may take place on a Tue, Wed, or Thu at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center, 4:30 – 6:00 pm during the Fairfax County Public School year.

Sponsor a Seasonal Celebration

Organizations and groups may sponsor a celebration for the children and their families. Many of the students and their families are at-risk, and a celebration is a welcome time for them to take a break from the everyday routine. Parties may include seasonal crafts, competitions, or small hands-on activities and should always include healthy snacks or meals.

We are happy to provide ideas and guidance, but due to our small staff we would appreciate help in planning, setup, running event activities, and cleanup. Celebrations may take place on a Tue, Wed, or Thu at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center, 4:30 – 6:00 pm during the Fairfax County Public School year.

Fundraise

Outside of our typical operating costs, there are several ongoing initiatives that require support through fundraising efforts.

Vecinos Unidos offers tutoring scholarships to our students, and hosts summer programming to keep students’ academic skills strong. We need yearly support to improve curriculum areas such as literacy and technology. Supplies, healthy snacks, and learning materials for students also require financial assistance.

We welcome fundraising support in any amount, and are happy to work with groups to provide a wish list of our current needs.

Donate

Vecinos Unidos is entirely funded by donations and grants, so every donation counts! Our annual operating costs are around $40,000, which covers materials and supplies, healthy snacks for the students, insurance, summer programming, and scholarships.

With the support of our donors and volunteers, Vecinos Unidos makes significant strides and our program grows to accommodate additional students. You can make a monetary donation or donate something from our wish list!
