Why Volunteer

Why Volunteer With Vecinos Unidos?

“Education has the power to change lives. Becoming an educational volunteer is a great way of doing community service. So the only ‘right time’ to become an educational volunteer is now.”  Source: futureyears.com

Vecinos Unidos (VU) volunteers make difference in the lives of students in grades 1 – 6 by helping them with their homework, encouraging a love of reading and learning, and being adult role models for community involvement. This is your chance to help a young person succeed in school and in life. With caring and concerned volunteers to assist them, students’ academic work improves and their confidence in their ability to achieve increases.

As a non-profit 501(c)3 with no paid employees, volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization— without them, there is no organization. Many of our volunteers have made a long-term commitment to VU and have witnessed over many years the positive effect our program has on students.

Volunteering and the sense of well-being that comes from doing something helpful for others and making the community a better place to live in are powerful motivators. We have discovered that as much as we give as volunteers, the rewards for us come back tenfold.
