Vecinos Unidos is unique because our programs are staffed entirely by volunteers and funded solely by individual, corporate, and foundation donations and grants.
Vecinos Unidos provides a year-round program consisting of homework assistance during the school year and a summer program during July and August. Attendees are local children who need assistance with homework and other education skills. Many students come from homes where English is not spoken as the first language, and some experience economic and cultural factors that put them at risk of academic struggle and potentially failure.
During the school year, Vecinos Unidos helps students with their homework and long-term school projects four days a week for 90 minutes each day. After homework is completed, students are required to read aloud to an adult for 20 minutes and then urged to participate in skill-building activities such as flash cards, puzzles, vocabulary development, and educational games. During the summer, Vecinos Unidos keeps education first by offering a wealth of educational activities for students three days a week, two hours daily.
Support for these programs can be made from our Wish List to provide the necessary supplies our volunteers and students need all year.
