Join Vecinos Unidos (Neighbors United) as we make a difference in the lives of children.
We are a non-profit organization committed to increasing education opportunities for children in families where English is not the first language. We provide after-school homework and academic help for children in grades 1-6. Most of our students come from families that don’t speak English, making it particularly challenging for them to succeed in school compared to their peers. (Without someone reading with them in English during their early development years, many of our children lack the fundamentals of learning that are necessary in every school subject. That’s where we come in!)
We are looking for volunteers to work one-on-one with children in grades 1-6 to help bring them up to grade-level achievement and prepare them for success outside the classroom. Volunteers help one evening a week during the school year, from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at the Neighborhood Resource Center in Herndon, VA.
