The first week back has been a happy reunion of volunteers and students!
Students and volunteers review noun, verbs, and adjectives.
It’s so heartwarming to greet students and see the big smiles on their faces when they come through the door and see the familiar setting and friendly volunteers. Settling quickly back into the VU routine, students are enjoying healthy snacks; conversing with volunteers; completing their homework; reading aloud; practicing math facts; and, when all that is done, playing educational games.
Happily, VU has welcomed a large new cohort of volunteers to complement the fabulous group we already had. Many of them are high school students from various schools around the area, and it’s a great pleasure to watch them interact with the students and be positive young role models. It’s hard to tell who benefits more from the time spent together, but I know we all gain!
