Not Another Snow Day!

  • January 21, 2014

I know, kids love them and everyone has to be kept safe, but we’re missing so much VU! It’s been busy the last few weeks with about 15 kids or more each night. And we adding more from the waiting list as fast as we can. We’ve seen such progress with some of our readers and it takes consistency to maintain that. It’s also great to see attitudes change and enthusiasm grow and students become more confident in their abilities and more comfortable with the adult volunteers.

One young man last week told me with a big grin on his face that he had to leave early for a concert. He was performing at his school in a chorus. He was really excited and his dad was clearly proud. I was excited too because it was such a change from his demeanor earlier in the year. Other volunteers remarked on the change too.  The new attitude may not have anything to do with VU, but we can certainly encourage it to help him keep growing!

Our success is measured in such small moments as well as the growth on report cards and progress reports.  Makes it so worthwhile to be a volunteer at VU.
