Fall Flurry

  • October 29, 2013

We’ve had a flurry of students in the homework assitance program over the last few weeks.  Great attendance numbers in the high teens mean that our students find us valuable, but they can put a strain on our volunteer force. With 2:1 ratio, it’s sometimes hard to ensure that all students read after they finish their homework, and that’s so important to our program and the students’ success. Especially now that we have more than 50 new books from a grant we recieved from First Book. Of course, sometimes volunteers have to sit around a bit when it’s a slow night, but when the kids come, it’s all worth it!  Parent conferences and report cards follow Halloween, so numbers could go up even more!

If you are interested in helping out, it’s a great time to get started. Two hours a week can make a big difference.
