The past week of homework assistance at VU has been calm, with a ratio of students to volunteers that allows us to get close to the one-to-one climate that we like so much. Students have been able to get their work done, read for 20 minutes, and then play some educational games. Most recently Sight Word Bingo has been quite popular as has a new strategy game.
The relative quiet has also given the volunteers time to keep the book cart tidy and do some housekeeping. We are getting ready for a big Connections for Hope fundraiser featuring the Footprints for Hope walk/run on May 19. The morning will feature a 5K run and 1 and 3 miles walks–so there’s something for everyone. VU can also use volunteers to help set up and work the day of. Use the Connections for Hope link on the VU site to get more information and sign up.
Next week is spring break so enjoy the time off, and we’ll see everyone back on Tuesday, April 10, ready to go. For the students, it will be the beginning of a new grading period so they will need us to at our best to help them succeed.
