VU has been on quite a roller coaster ride in January. Student numbers have been up and down ever since the holiday break. On consecutive days, numbers of students attending have been 2, 18, 10, 6, 26, 9 and 19. Last week the busy day was Wednesday. This week the busy days have been Tuesday and Thursday.
If you are a volunteer already or want to become one, I can’t promise you a busy night or a slow night. I can only promise you that when you help a child, the universe smiles. (You and the child will be smiling too). I can honestly say that I always leave homework assistance feeling better than when I arrived!
One thing I know for sure is that VU will have 0 students on Monday, January 16, because the schools and VU will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr, who fittingly wrote:
“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broad concerns of all humanity.”
Here’s to living and the great work that VU volunteers do.
